Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BRASSARD AT :27 AGAIN? – For the second consecutive game, Chris Brassard scored 27 seconds into overtime against the Fort Worth Brahmas as the Mudbugs defeated the Brahmas, 4-3 on Friday night at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Fort Worth got the game's first goal as Aaron Davis scored on a backhanded wrap-around past Mudbugs goaltender Ken Carroll. The Mudbugs then answered with Jim Sprott scoring his second goal of the season on a shot through a screen from the blue line. However, just 37 seconds later, Joey Bastien gave the Brahmas the lead back with a give-and-go with Derrell Upton. Chris Brassard would then tie the game on the power play with his first goal of the night with just 17 seconds left in the first period on a shot from the blue line. After a second period power play goal which gave the Brahmas the lead, Jason Campbell scored his 100th career goal to tie the game in the third. In overtime, Fort Worth goaltender Erasmo Saltarelli played a loose puck around the boards, but Chris Brassard cut it off and fired it into the vacated net for his 10th of the season and second consecutive overtime game-winning goal against the Brahmas.

KILLER BEES GO DOWN IN SHOOTOUT – On Saturday night, the Mudbugs made their first-ever trip to Rio Grande Valley to meet the expansion Killer Bees at the Dodge Arena. Jason Campbell scored a power play goal to give the Mudbugs an early 1-0 lead and Chris Brassard added another in the second period. However, the Bees responded with goals from Dan Odegard and Roger Holeczy to tie the game at 2-2. After a scoreless third period, both teams failed to score in the overtime session despite trading several scoring chances, including a Chad Spurr shot from the blue line that hit the crossbar. In the shootout, Bossier-Shreveport got goals from Jason Basile and Chad Spurr, as well as four saves from goaltender Jeff Blair, to earn a 3-2 victory. Spurr was credited with the game-winning goal as the Mudbugs won their seventh consecutive game.

BIG SECOND PERIOD GIVES LAREDO THE WIN – The Mudbugs concluded their three-game road trip on Sunday with their first meeting of the season against the CHL's top team, the Laredo Bucks. Chad Spurr continued his impressive weekend with a power play goal at 17:54 of the first period to give the Mudbugs a 1-0 lead. However, Laredo would take control of the game with five goals in the second period, including two from Patrik Nilson and a shorthanded goal from Jeff Bes. The Mudbugs got goals from Jim Sprott and Travis Bell, but Laredo preserved the lead and added an empty-net tally for a 6-3 win. The goal by Bell was the first of his professional career. The loss ended the Mudbugs' seven-game winning streak and dropped their record to 23-8-3.
