New Jersey Jackals News Release

Pittsfield, Mass. - Colonials' starter Chad Paronto tossed seven solid innings and got plenty of run support as the New Jersey Jackals fell to Pittsfield, 11-3, on Monday night at Wahconah Park.

With Can-Am League wins and ERA leader Isaac Pavlik (10-3) on the mound, the Colonials jumped out to an 8-0 lead, chasing the Jackals' ace after five innings. Meanwhile, Paronto (7-5) allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits over seven innings, firing 125 pitches en route to picking up the win.

Trailing 8-0, the Jackals broke through in the top of the sixth inning when Sean Smith bunted his way on to start the inning and scored two batters later when D'Angelo Jimenez stroked a double into the gap in left center. The next inning, New Jersey pushed a pair of runs across to cut their deficit to 8-3 when Jordan Newton and Chris White reached on back-to-back one-out singles and later came around to score following a two-out error by Pittsfield shortstop Danny Bomback, which extended the inning.

After New Jersey reliever Cody Railsback turned in a pair of scoreless innings, Pittsfield capped the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the eighth with Mike Petrowski on the hill.

In the losing effort, Smith went 1-for-3 with a run scored and three stolen bases while Mike DeJesus knocked in a run in the seventh inning.

The Jackals head to Quebec City to begin a three-game series against the first-half champion Quebec Capitales on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Stade Municipal. In the series opener, New Jersey will send right-hander Shaun Ellis (5-2, 4.03 ERA) to the mound against Quebec righty Bryan Rembisz (5-1, 2.93 ERA) in a rematch between last Wednesday's starting pitchers. Cody Chrusciel has the call on the live webcast beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch at www.jackals.com.

JACKAL BITES: The Jackals stranded 41 runners on base in the series as they fell to 6-8 against the Colonials this season and 12-22 against Pittsfield all-time.
