Pittsfield Colonials News Release

PITTSFIELD, MA - Chad Paronto pitched seven strong innings and the Pittsfield Colonials scored eight runs in the first five innings to take an 11-3 victory over the New Jersey Jackals.

After both teams were turned away in order in the first inning, the Colonials loaded up the bases with no outs in the second on singles by Angel Molina and Chris Torres sandwiched around a walk to Peter Fatse. After a fielder's choice erased Molina at the plate, Scott Knazek came up with a single down the first base line, scoring Fatse and Torres for a 2-0 Pittsfield lead. Jermel Lomack came up next and drove a sac fly to center to score Keith Beauregard to put the Colonials up 3-0.

Pittsfield would add another run in the third inning as after back-to-back singles and a groundout put runners on second and third, a sacrifice fly by Fatse scored Danny Bomback to push the advantage to 4-0.

The Colonials salted the game away in the fifth. After Jerod Edmondson led off with a single and stole second, Danny Bomback bunted him to third. Billy Mottram put all thoughts of subtlety to bed as he cranked his ninth homerun of the season, his first against a left-hander, over the rightcenterfield fence to make it 6-0 Pittsfield. Two more runs would score in the inning as Molina tripled followed by a Fatse single to go up 7-0. The final run scored on a Beauregard single to plate Fatse.

New Jersey would get a single run in the sixth and two unearned runs in the seventh to cut the Colonials lead to five. Pittsfield would make sure that any thoughts of a Jackals comeback were put to rest in the eighth, when they plated three runs to take an 11-3 lead.

The win went to Chad Paronto (7-5) who went seven innings, allowing one earned run, striking out six. Isaac Pavlik (10-3) suffered the loss for New Jersey giving up eight runs in five innings.

The Colonials now welcome the New York Federals to town for four games. Tuesday the two teams will play a doubleheader consisting of two, seven-inning games, beginning at 6 p.m. For tickets or information visit pittsfieldcolonials.com or call (413)-236-2961.
