Collins and Lobstein Put on a Show in the Southern Tier

Kyle Lobstein was on fire Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium, helping the SeaWolves get the series split with a 9-1 win over the Binghamton Mets.

Erie jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against Mets starter Logan Verrett. Daniel Fields led off with a single and stole second. Fields scored on a one-out Ramon Cabrera double for a 1-0 lead.

The SeaWolves added to their lead in the fifth. Wade Gaynor led off with a single and stole second. Jamie Johnson sent a dribbler down the third base line that stayed fair, putting runners on the corners for Marcus Lemon. Lemon singled home Gaynor for a 2-0 lead. Daniel Fields followed with a single to load the bases. With one out, Cabrera hit into a fielder's choice that allowed two runs to score for a 4-0 lead. Tyler Collins then belted a two-run home run to left, his fourth of the season and third in as many games, for a 6-0 lead.

In the seventh, the SeaWolves would extend the lead on reliever Josh Edgin. With one out, Hernan Perez tripled down the right field line and Cabrera walked putting a pair on for Collins. Collins turned on a fastball and hit a monster three-run home run over the wall in right for a 9-0 Erie advantage. The home run for Collins was his fifth of the season and fourth of the series.

Lobstein took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. With one out, Josh Rodriguez reached on an error and Allan Dykstra walked. Lobstein struck out Blake Forsythe for the second out brining Cesar Puello to the plate. Puello lifted a blooper that fell just out of the reach of Marcus Lemon at second for the first Mets hit. On the single, Rodriguez scored for the lone Binghamton run.

Will Startup and Justin Souza tossed the final two innings of the game keeping the Mets off the board, preserving a 9-1 win.

Lobstein (3-2) allowed a run on one hit with two walks and six strikeouts in seven innings of work. He has won back-to-back starts and has allowed two runs over his last 15 innings pitched.

The SeaWolves return home on Friday night against the Altoona Curve at 7:05 p.m. RHP Patrick Cooper (0-2, 5.85 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Ethan Hollingsworth (0-1, 4.50 ERA).
