Colabello's Homer and Two Doubles Finish Four-Game Sweep of Federals

Chris Colabello hit a homerun and two doubles and Ryan Lobban earned his fourth win of the year in a 9-4 Tornadoes victory over the Federals on Sunday afternoon. The five-run fourth inning helped Worcester pull away.
Cameron Monger's sacrifice fly put the Tornadoes on top 1-0 in the second. One inning later, Colabello hit his 18th homer of the season, a solo shot, which doubled the lead. Colabello finished his day 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and four RBI.
Nick Salotti led off the fourth by being hit by a pitch (which happened twice in the game, each time Salotti eventually scoring). Brendon Kelliher walked, but was erased on the 1-4 double play. Federals starter Andrew Bakowski made a sliding catch on a bunt attempt by Anthony Sosnoskie and threw to first for another out. With two down, Monger got an RBI single and stole second. Alex Nunez knocked Cam home with a single, then Abraham Nunez singled after him. Colabello hit his first of two doubles to plate both Nunez baserunners and give the Tornadoes a 6-1 lead, and he came home on Mark Minicozzi's long base hit of the afternoon.
Lobban gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Mike Gedman, Matt McDonald and Albert Ayala all pitched scoreless innings in relief, while Nick Serino (0.2) and Sean Gregory (0.1) combined for a shutout frame as well.
The fourth inning was the fourth frame in the last five games that the Tornadoes have scored at lead five runs. Worcester ended the season series with a 12-1 mark against New York.
The central Mass. team is on a five-game winning streak heading into the upcoming series against the Brockton Rox in a battle for first place in the second half. Game one of the set is at 7:05pm on Tuesday, as Zach Zuercher takes the hill after consecutive complete game shutouts. The gates at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field open at 6:00, and Tornadoes Pre-Game Live on USTREAM begins at 6:50.
