Coats Come Back for O.T. Win Over Austin

WILMINGTON - The Delaware Blue Coats (11-5) defeated the Austin Spurs (9-8) 125-123 on Wilmington Blue Bombers Tribute Night presented by Wilmington Brew Works.

The Blue Coats trailed by 23 points entering the halftime break. Delaware then outscored Austin by 15 in the third quarter and eight in the fourth to tie it up at 118 and force overtime. NBA G League overtime rules adhere to the "Elam ending," where a target score of seven points is in play. The Coats won the first-to-seven race, ending the game at 125 points on a Jarron Cumberland driving layup for the team's third-straight win.

"The second half was really good, the first half not so good," head coach Mike Longabardi said. "I just told them, 'we have to find different ways to win.' Tonight was one of those ways."

Darius Bazley finished the game with a career-high 36 points while also chipping in nine rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Jeff Dowtin Jr. contributed a game-high 11 assists and was second on the team with 26 points, followed by Marcus Bagley with 16 points off the bench.

RaiQuan Gray led the Spurs in scoring with 25 points and added 11 rebounds. In his return to Chase Fieldhouse, former Blue Coats guard David Duke Jr. scored 22 points to go along with 10 rebounds and five assists. Paul Watson rounded out the starting five with 18 points, and Mamadi Diakite led all bench scorers in the game with 17 points.

At halftime of tonight's game, the Blue Coats retired the No. 9 jersey of Wilmington Blue Bombers legend Waite Bellamy, who starred in the Eastern Professional Basketball League from 1963-71

The Coats will welcome the Spurs to Chase Fieldhouse again on Saturday, Feb. 10 in the second leg of a back-to-back. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. EST.
