
Coaching Day in Alberta Powered by National Sports Development Raises the Roof for Coaches

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen and Calgary Flames are proud to announce the annual Coaching Day in Alberta Powered by National Sports Development a success. In partnership with Hockey Calgary, Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta the event held at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday, October 30th, 2010 hosted over 300 registered coaches for a full day of coaching instructions.
"The feedback we get each year from this event is outstanding," explained Hitmen Director of Business Operations Mike Moore. "This program gives minor hockey coaches the opportunities to not only receive tips and strategies from Flames and Hitmen coaches, but also expertise from National Sports Development, Hockey Calgary, Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada."
The event started with an instructional on-ice session led by Hockey Canada, Hockey Calgary, Hockey Alberta and NSD personnel for coaches attending in the stands followed by a Hockey Canada off-ice presentation. With a busy day in the Scotiabank Saddledome coaches also had the chance to watch the Calgary Flames and Calgary Hitmen game day skates as well as the Calgary Hitmen practice the same day.
Fan 960 personality Rob Kerr hosted the event which featured a question and answer portion with Flames Assistant Coach Rob Cookson in between ice times. Registered coaches were also given the opportunity to take their team to the Hitmen game on either October 29th or October 31st with a charitable ticket package that directed over $500 to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area.
After the conclusion of the event at the Scotiabank Saddledome coaches were invited to attend NSD South for exclusive seminars in the high performance training center in relation to the positive impact the centre can have on the development of young players. NSD is a training facility based in Calgary. The venue caters to both team and individual high performance training and is also the official training facility for the Calgary Hitmen.
