
WHL this Week: Looking Ahead

Calgary, AB - The 2009-10 Western Hockey League regular season enters its first weekend of action in November with a busy schedule of 23 games set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
In Brandon, MB, the Wheat Kings will make a special Salute to School Patrols on Saturday night when they take on the Seattle Thunderbirds. Over 500 school patrols from Brandon and the surrounding area are expected to attend the game.
In Swift Current, SK, Saturday night is Alumni Night when the Broncos host the visiting Spokane Chiefs. Former Broncos goaltender Bryce Wandler will be in attendance and signing autographs.
In Vancouver, B.C, Friday night is Gordie Howe Night when the Giants host the Kelowna Rockets. Legendary Hall-of-Famer Gordie Howe will be in attendance, along with his sons, Mark and Marty.
COUGARS' INGLIS ADDED TO TEAM WHL ROSTER...
CALGARY, AB -- The Western Hockey League announced today that Charles Inglis of the Prince George Cougars will play for Team WHL in the final game of the 2010 SUBWAY(r) Super Series on Thursday, November 18th, in Prince George, BC. The addition of Inglis completes the Team WHL roster which will see 12 forwards, six defenceman and two goaltenders suit up against Team Russia in game six of the 2010 SUBWAY(r) Super Series.
TYLER DYCK'S WHL SCHOLARSHIP SUCCESS STORY...
Tyler Dyck got used to high-speed collisions on the ice during his days playing in the Western Hockey League. Now, the 27-year-old from Calgary, AB, makes his living analyzing the physics of such collisions as a Forensic Engineer.
HAWKS' CARRUTH AND GIANTS' CUNNINGHAM EARN MONTHLY HONORS...
CALGARY, AB. - The Western Hockey League announced that forward Craig Cunningham of the Vancouver Giants has been named the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for September/October while goaltender Mac Carruth of the Portland Winterhawks has been named the VAUGHN WHL Goaltender of the Month.
FRIDAY NIGHT WHL HOCKEY ON SHAW...
Craig Cunningham and the Vancouver Giants host Mitchell Callahan and the Kelowna Rockets for a B.C. Division battle on Friday night.
Friday's contest between the Rockets and Giants can be seen live throughout western Canada on SHAW (7:30pm PT).
The Giants (10-6-1-1) have been idle since doubling up the Oil Kings 4-2 in Edmonton last Saturday for their fifth win in their last six games, and currently lead the B.C. Division with 22 points. The Giants are 4-2-1-1 at home this season. Giants' head coach Don Hay needs just four more wins to hit the 500-win mark.
The Rockets (6-10-0-0) are coming off a 5-2 victory over the Blazers in Kamloops on Wednesday night for their second straight victory. The Rockets are 3-4 away from home this season. Callahan has racked up three goals and five assists for eight points in his last two games.
It's the third meeting of the season between the Rockets and Giants. Vancouver won both previous meetings with Kelowna this season.

KEY WEEKEND MATCH-UP...
Portland Winterhawks vs Red Deer Rebels Friday, Nov. 5th
Ty Rattie and the Portland Winterhawks take on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and the Red Deer Rebels for a battle between two of the WHL's top teams and two of the WHL best young stars on Friday night.
The Winterhawks are coming off a pair of victories over the visiting Kelowna Rockets last weekend, stretching their win streak to six games, and currently occupy first place overall in the WHL standings. The Hawks have scored 22 more goals than they have allowed this season. 17-year-old Ty Rattie, who is eligible for the 2011 NHL Entry draft, ranks third in the WHL scoring race with 28 points this season.
The Rebels are coming off a 4-1 defeat in Kent, WA, to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Tuesday night, snapping a three-game winning streak, and currently sit tied for fourth in the overall WHL standings. The Rebels are 6-3 on the road this season. 17-year-old Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, also eligible for the 2011 NHL draft, is currently tied for fifth in WHL scoring with 25 points this season.
It's the only meeting of the season between the Rebels and Winterhawks. The Rebels managed a 6-2 win over the visiting Winterhawks in last season's only encounter.
