Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS - The Sioux Falls Pheasants shut out the Wichita Wingnuts, 3-0, in a Wednesday matinee at Sioux Falls Stadium to take a series win. The first-place Pheasants upped their record to 22-10. They have not lost a series at home and have only lost one series this season.

The Pheasants pitching staff tossed their third combined shutout of the year. Starter Ryan Shaver (3-0) led the effort with a win in six innings pitched. He limited the Wingnuts to five hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Ryan Grant and Brandon Rapoza each added an inning of shutout relief, and Aaron Cotter pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save of the year.

The Wingnuts mustered only six singles total in the game. Only once did they have more than one runner on base, and no runners ever reached third base.

The Pheasants took control of the game with a two-out, three-run rally. Hunter Jobes broke the scoreless tie in the sixth inning with a single to cash in Beau Torbert. Torbert led off the inning with a double. After Eddy Rodriguez drew a walk, Kevin Carby and Joe Anthonsen chipped in with back-to-back singles to tally two more runs.

Wingnuts starter Gabe Medina (0-3), who has found little run support this season, took the loss. He gave up three runs and six hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out two.

The Pheasants open a three-game series with the St. Paul Saints at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, June 18, at Sioux Falls Stadium. It's a Fantastic Friday Fireworks night, sponsored by Sanford Health.

The Pheasants are members of the American Association, a 10-team independent professional baseball league playing its fifth season this summer. Individual and group ticket information is available by calling (605) 333-0179. Fans can also visit the Pheasants at www.sfpheasants.com.
