Lancaster Stormers News Release

Matt Wright spun two-hit baseball for 6 2/3 innings, leading Lancaster to a critical 6-0 victory over the Camden Riversharks Wednesday evening at Campbell's Field.

The win, combined with York's 11-9 loss to Long Island, put the Barnstormers back in first place by one-half game in the tight Freedom Division race. It also simplifies the math - Lancaster needs to win three of its last five games, in any combination, to win the first half.

Wright (2-5), carried a shutout into the seventh inning for the second straight start, this time, working with catcher Matt Tupman, his former batterymate in Class AAA Omaha. He retired the first 10 batters he faced before Noah Hall broke the string with an infield single, a ball hit off the wrists that never reached the infield dirt. One out later, following a force play, Brian Burgamy singled to center, but Wright fanned Pedro Feliz to end the threat.

He finished with two walks and five strikeouts. He was lifted in favor of Tim McNab with two outs and a runner at second in the seventh inning. McNab got Drew Macias to hit a grounder to third on which Burgamy was tagged out by Ozzie Chavez to end the inning.

Jon Huber and Evan Englebrook pitched perfect innings to nail down the win.

Aaron Herr gave Lancaster a 1-0 lead with a leadoff homer to left off Federico Baez (4-2) in the seventh. Iggy Suarez tacked on a second run in the fifth with a single through the left side of the infield, scoring Gilberto Mejia from third.

Lancaster's other four runs scored in the eighth. Fernando Seguignol drilled a single to center leading off and left for pinch runner Brandon King. Adam Calderone grounded out, and Camden opted to walk Herr. Tupman hit a grounder to second baseman Juan Francia, whose attempted backhanded toss to shortstop Danny Richar slipped out of his hand for an error. Chavez and Mejia drew consecutive bases loaded walks for a 4-0 edge. Lefty Jay Marshall got J.C. Holt on a soft liner to short for the second out but could not get through Suarez, who stroked his fourth single of the night to drive in two.

The Barnstormers face the Riversharks in the finale of a three-game series Thursday morning at 11:00. J.D. Durbin (1-1) will work for the Barnstormers against right-hander Josh Towers (3-3). The game will be aired on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and streamed on sportsjuice.com.
