Ontario Clippers News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario (15-15) couldn't complete the comeback as they fall to the hot-shooting Lakeland Magic on Monday night, 131-120.
Lakeland (19-11) couldn't have shot the ball any better in the third, even if they casted actual spells to guide the ball through the basket, making 17 of their 21 field goal attempts to go 81 percent for the quarter. The magical quarter was capped off with a buzzer-beater from half court by Braian Angola-Rodas.
Forward Anthony Brown led the Magic with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field. Guard Troy Caupain added a 21-point, 10-assist double-double.
Both teams came out of the gates red hot, with the Clippers shooting 65.2 percent from the field and Lakeland hitting an even better 71.4 percent of their shots, to end the opening tied at 38.
Agua Caliente shot 55 percent in the fourth to outscored the Magic 28-14, but the 25-point deficit was too much to overcome.
Six Clippers scored in double digits with Jamel Artis leading the way with 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field.
The Clippers hit the road for the first time in 16 days as they head to Texas on Saturday for a matchup against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The Vipers came out on top, 133-124, when the teams met in early December. Saturday's game is slated to tip off at 5 p.m. PDT inside the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas.
