Columbus Clippers News Release
The Columbus Clippers got the best of the Durham Bulls, 2-0, in game one of the teams' doubleheader tonight at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The teams combined for only seven hits, with the Clippers owning just three of them, but they took advantage of their opportunities and a fantastic start from Adam Plutko to win.
The Clippers scored what would eventually be the winning run just three batters into the game when Yandy Diaz hit a sacrifice-fly to score Drew Maggi.
They took their 1-0 lead into the fifth and doubled it thanks to Eric Haase's 15th homerun of the season, a solo shot over the left field wall.
Adam Plutko shut the Bulls out for six innings, giving up four hits. He also walked just one batter and struck out eight.
Tyler Olson came on for his first save of the season, striking out two, in the bottom of the seventh.
The Clippers did the same to the Bulls in game two, shutting them out again, 3-0, to sweep the doubleheader.
Despite being on the road in Durham, the Clippers were the home team in the second game as it was a makeup of a rainout in Columbus on April 15.
Greg Allen had a big game for the Clippers, kicking things off with a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
The Clippers held that lead until they added to it in the fifth with RBI singles from Allen and Yu Chang, making it 3-0.
Ben Taylor came on in the seventh to record his eighth save of the year, securing the victory.
The teams will face off in game three tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
