Toledo Mud Hens News Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y - The Toledo Mud Hens got out to an early lead, but could not hold it against the Rochester Red Wings as they drop game two of the series 6-4.
The Mud Hens struck in the top of the first inning. Jacob Robson opened things up with a double, and was driven in by another double from Dawel Lugo. Two more runs crossed the plate via a Chad Huffman single and an Edwin Espinal sac fly.
Mikie Mahtook gave the Mud Hens a four run lead after hitting a sac fly in the third inning, driving home Christin Stewart. Following this play, the Red Wings third baseman held on to the ball and tagged out Lugo to pull off a hidden ball trick.
Toledo starter Warwick Saupold cruised through four shutout innings. However, in the fifth he gave up back to back hits. A third hit from Jeremy Hazelbaker scored a run and ended Saupold's day.
Zac Reininger came in and allowed Tyler Austin and Willians Astudillo to drive in the rest of Saupold's runs. The Mud Hens escaped the fifth clinging to a one run lead.
Neither offense scored again until the seventh inning. Hunter Cervenka came out of the Hen Pen, and allowed a two run homerun off the bat of Kennys Vargas that gave Rochester a one run advantage.
Josh Smoker took over in the eighth inning and worked his way into a bases loaded jam. With one away, Nick Gordon grounded a ball into right field to drive in a run. The Mud Hens headed into their half of the ninth down by a score of 6-4. That is where the score would stay as the Red Wings came away with the win.
What's Next:
The Mud Hens remain in Rochester on Thursday as they gear up for the series finale against the Red Wings. First pitch from Frontier Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
