IHL 2 Kalamazoo Wings

Clean Sweep

November 24, 2008 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the International Hockey League, announce that forward Mark Nebus, goaltender Jason Tapp and forward Tommy Lange have all earned league awards for the period ending November 23rd.

With a remarkable and breath-taking performance yesterday versus Port Huron, Nebus earns the Pepsi Player of the Week. The native of South Lyons, Michigan produced 8 points (6 goals and 2 assists) in four games last week for Kalamazoo.

Without question, Nebus' performance last Sunday pushed him over the top for the league's top player honor. On only six shots on net, Nebus mesmerized the Wings Stadium crowd of 2,857 by lighting the lamp five times, which ties a franchise regular season record held by Jim McRae (11/16/83 vs. Fort Wayne) and Tom Ross (11/21/79 vs. Saginaw).

The effort, which was also one-goal shy of tying the league regular season record, nearly matched Nebus' career goal total. Prior to last Sunday, Nebus had scored six goals in 92 pro games.

Nebus, who finished the week with an amazing +8, now shares the team lead with Rick Cleaver in plus/minus with a +9 and also shares the team lead with Lucas Drake for goals scored with nine.

For the second straight week, no one was better at protecting the net than Tapp. Earning wins in five straight starts, Tapp was a perfect 3-0-0-0 for the K-Wings last weekend to take home his second Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week award.

Like Nebus, Tapp had a memorable break-through performance. Last Friday, Tapp recorded a K-Wings' season-high 45 saves to preserve a 5-0 shutout over the Bloomington PrairieThunder.

The astonishing 45-save effort also tied Tapp for the league-high for saves in a game.

A workhouse between the pipes, Tapp has started in 12 of the K-Wings 14 games this season. The native of Kelowna, British Columbia ranks second in the IHL in goals against average (3.09), wins (7) and save percentage (0.905). Tapp also leads the league in minutes played with 7:17:45.

On the week, Tapp stopped 114 of the 119 shots he faced for a save percentage of 0.958 and a minuscule goals against average of 1.67.

Not to be outdone, Lange skates away with the league's Aquafina Rookie of the Week. The native of St. Louis, Missouri recorded seven points (3 goals and 4 assists) and was +7 in four games this week.

While Lange did record a K-Wings' season-high tying four assists in yesterday's 6-1 victory over the Icehawks, it was his first game last week against Port Huron that was more meaningful.

Last Tuesday, Lange's two-goal outburst helped spark the K-Wings to a 5-3 victory at McMorran Place Arena.

Three of Lange's five goals on the season were scored during his awarding winning week and six of his 11 points on the season have come in four games this year against Port Huron.

Kalamazoo will begin a five-game road trip this Thursday, November 27th with a 7:30 p.m. (CDT) face-off against the Bloomington PrairieThunder.

The K-Wings will return to Wings Stadium Friday, December 12th with a 7:30 p.m. encounter versus the Flint Generals
