K-Wings Extend Win Streak To A League-High Six Games

ROCHESTER, MI--- There is no slowing the Kalamazoo Wings down lately as they extended their winning streak to a league-high six games after last week. The K-Wings have improved their record to 8-6-0-0 (16 points), good for third place in the IHL after spending the first five weeks of the season at the bottom of the standings. During the six game streak, the K-Wings have outscored their opponents 31-9. Kalamazoo snapped Port Huron's five game winning streak Tuesday with a 5-3 win, then ended the Icehawks five game road winning streak Sunday with a 6-1 victory.

Flint's Steve Rymsha scored the Generals first hat trick of the season Friday in Muskegon. He scored three even strength goals, while on the other end of the ice Muskegon's Frank Littlejohn recorded his second hat trick of the season the same night, posting one shorthanded and two even strength goals. Saturday, Lumberjacks left wing Luke Stauffacher also scored his second hat trick of the season, scoring three even strength goals for Muskegon. To cap off the week, Kalamazoo's Mark Nebus scored his first pro hat trick Sunday, scoring a league-high five goals in Kalamazoo's 6-1 victory over the Icehawks.

Port Huron's Kevin Desfosses earned his second shutout of the season Friday with a 1-0 win in Fort Wayne. Desfosses made 28 saves while teammate Derek Patrosso scored his first pro goal, which ended up being lone tally of the game. It was the first time the Komets have been shut out since March 3, 2007. That same night, Kalamazoo's Jason Tapp made a league-tying 45 saves in the K-Wings 5-0 victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder.

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (0-2-0-0) - Don Parsons needs just five goals to become the all-time leader in career goals. He has 673 and the record is 677. The PrairieThunder went nearly six straight periods without a goal before scoring two in 61 seconds at Muskegon on Saturday to break the drought. During that drought, the PrairieThunder fired 61 consecutive shots at net before hitting its mark. When it did hit its mark, Bloomington scored on its next three shots on goal. The PrairieThunder have lost six of its last seven games after starting with a franchise-best 4-2 record. Bloomington fired a franchise record 45 shots on goal, including 10 power play opportunities without scoring Friday against Kalamazoo.

Flint Generals - (1-2-0-0) - The Flint Generals netted 14 goals in three games this past weekend but yielded a total of 17. Goaltender Jordan Alford is fifth in the league with 210 saves, while Chad Alban is fourth in save percentage (.893). The Generals are still the lone IHL team without a shorthanded goal for this season, while they lead the league in six shorthanded goals against. The second period continues to be a good one for the Generals with 19 goals scored and giving up just 20 against. Five of Justin DePretis' points (2 goals and 3 assists) have come via the power play this year. Matt Elich has fired five goals in the month of November. John DiPace, Steve Rymsha and Kyle Deck are a combined +16 in their last five games. Rymsha leads the way with a plus six rating.

Fort Wayne Komets - (0-1-1-0) - Komets winless skid grows to four games after dropping both games of the week. The last time the Komets played four games without a win was during the 2005-06 season, November 26th thru December 4th. The slump has placed the Komets in fourth place in the IHL with a 7-5-1-0 record for 15 points after 13 games. The Komets are now 2-5-1-0 in their last eight games since winning the first five games of the season. This week the Komets will skate their 47th consecutive home Thanksgiving game against the Flint Generals at 7:30 p.m. The Komets are 28-14-2-2 at home on Turkey Day. The last time the Komets hosted the Generals on Thanksgiving was November 23, 2000 (6-5 loss). In four Thanksgiving visits to Fort Wayne, the Generals are 1-3-0. The Komets continue to lead all Minor Pro Hockey in attendance after attracting 15,865 fans to both games last week for an 8,590 per-game average attendance following six home games.

Kalamazoo Wings - (4-0-0-0) - K-Wings are on a league season-high six-game winning streak. Jason Tapp recorded the K-Wings first shutout of the season and tied a league-high for saves in a game with 45 on November 21st versus Bloomington. Mark Nebus tied a K-Wings franchise record for goals in a game, netting five on Sunday versus Port Huron. Casey Handrahan recorded his 100th career assist on Sunday versus Bloomington. Rick Cleaver recorded his first pro goal on 11/23/08 versus Bloomington. Kalamazoo starts a five-game road swing this Thursday at Bloomington. Kalamazoo is 5-1-0-0 when their opponents outshoot them. Including overtime, the K-Wings have scored 12 goals this season in the first two minutes of a period. Kalamazoo is 6-1-0-0 when they score the game's first goal.

Muskegon Lumberjacks - (2-0-1-0) - In earning five of a possible six points in three games in three nights this past week , the Lumberjacks ripped the chords to the tune of 22 goals for, with 17 goals for in the last two games alone. Muskegon remains the lone undefeated team on home ice in the IHL, going a perfect 6-0-0-0 at LC Walker Arena. The Lumberjacks have delivered the first goal of the game in 10 of their first 13 games, posting a record of 8-1-1-0 in that category. The IHL's leading scorer Todd Robinson has engineered three four-assist games already this season. He is currently on a four-game assist streak, posting 11 assists during that span. Luke Stauffacher leads the IHL with 13 goals, having scored them in 13 games. He also leads the league in game-winning goals with three, and multi-goal games with five.

Port Huron Icehawks - (2-2-0-0) - After struggling on special teams to start the season, the Icehawks have turned things around. They are now ranked first in the league on the penalty kill on the road, killing off 86.0% of penalties, and second on the penalty kill overall (83.3%). They are ranked fifth overall on the power play, with 13 power play goals in 74 opportunities. The Icehawks have been dominant in the first period this season. They lead the league for first period scoring and have outscored their opponents 26-14 in the opening stanza. Being prolific in the first has paid off for Port Huron. They are 6-3-0-0 when leading after the first period and are 8-2-0-0 when scoring first this season. Just three shutouts have been recorded in the league this season and two have come at the hands of Icehawks rookie goalie Kevin Desfosses. He blanked the Komets 1-0 on Friday for his second shutout of the season. He also halted the K-Wings 5-0 on November 8th. Desfosses is 4-2-0-0 this season and continues to lead the league in goals against average (2.14) and save percentage (.926).
