
Claws' Late Rally Falls Short in 4-3 Thursday Loss at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC - The BlueClaws rallied in the 9th but fell one run short, dropping Thursday's game in Greensboro 4-3.
The Grasshoppers (19-11) are now 8-1 against the BlueClaws (12-14) this year and have taken the first three games of this series.
The game was scoreless into the fourth, when Greensboro's Hudson Head singled in the game's first run.
The BlueClaws took the lead in the fifth. Marcus Lee Sang's SAC fly brought in Casey Martin, who led off the inning with a double. Kendall Simmons then tripled home Lee Sang to give the BlueClaws a 2-1 lead.
Carlos Betancourt came on for the BlueClaws and threw a scoreless fifth and sixth, but Greensboro re-took the lead scoring twice off Tristan Garnett in the seventh. Mike Jarvis tied the game with an RBI single before Tres Gonzalez's SAC fly from Maikol Escoto put Greensboro ahead 3-2.
Escoto doubled home a run in the eighth to push the lead to 4-2. Caleb Ricketts singled home a run in the ninth, but Simmons grounded out to end the game.
Dante Mendoza (2-0) earned the win after Po Yu Chen gave up two runs in six innings. Garnett (0-2) took the loss for the BlueClaws.
The BlueClaws were held to seven hits in the game, including a triple by Simmons and double by Martin.
The teams continue their series on Friday night at 6:30 pm. The BlueClaws return home on Tuesday to start a six-game series with Wilmington.
