Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico) - CJ Hinojosa homered twice as the Sugar Land Skeeters prevailed for a 9-7 extra-inning win Sunday night against the Albuquerque Isotopes.
After trading runs in the 10th inning, the Skeeters scored a pair in the 11th inning on a wild pitch and RBI single from Jake Meyers. Ronel Blanco pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his second win of the season.
Hinojosa provided a solo home run in the third inning and a two-run shot in the seventh inning, which tied the game at 6-6. Hinojosa has homered in three straight games, including four home runs over his last three games.
With the game tied 6-6 heading into the seventh inning, Michael Kelly escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam, getting Taylor Motter to strike out and Alan Trejo to fly out.
Bryan De La Cruz hit an RBI double in the 10th but was countered by a sacrifice fly by Trejo in the bottom half of the inning off Blanco.
The Skeeters jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI doubles from De La Cruz and Taylor Jones.
Albuquerque surged to a 6-3 lead in the fifth on a solo homer from Motter, who hit two solo home runs on the night. Colton Shaver got the Skeeters comeback started in the seventh with an RBI double, leading up to Hinojosa's game-tying home run.
Heath Holder, who allowed three runs through the final two innings of the game, was issued the loss.
Peter Solomon will start the week off with a start at 7:35 p.m. on Monday and Albuquerque will counter with right-hander Brandon Gold.
