Fort Wayne, IN - Wizards utility infielder Peter Ciofrone was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, July 19, with a left knee strain.
Ciofrone has been one of the more consistent players for the Wizards this season, hitting .358 with 40 runs batted in and two home runs with runners in scoring position. With runners in scoring position and two outs, he is hitting .294 with 12 RBI and one home run.
For the season, Ciofrone is hitting .289 with 14 doubles, three home runs and is second with 42 RBI, trailing catcher Colt Morton, who has 46. Spending a majority of the year as the Wizards designated hitter, Ciofrone has appeared in seven games at first base and 16 at third base.
The Wizards roster currently stands at 24 active players and an updated roster will follow this release.
