Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud members of the United Hockey League, announce the completion of two trades with the Elmira Jackals.

To complete a trade earlier this season with Elmira, Kalamazoo will receive the rights to forward Brad Church. Church, who was waived by the Missouri River Otters on Thursday, was pickup by Jackals late yesterday.

The native of Dauphin, Manitoba is entering his 10th season as a professional. Church, who was the Washington Capitals 1st round pick (17th overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, played two games in with Washington during the 1997-98 season. Brad helped lead the Florida Everblades (ECHL) to the finals in 2004-05, scoring 12 points in 19 playoff games.

Church has played 318 games in the AHL, scoring 48 goals and dishing out 76 assists for 124 points. His most prolific professional season came in 2002-03 with the Richmond Renegades (ECHL) when he scored 29 goals and added 45 assists for 74 points in 64 games.

"He (Church) is a proven performer," said Vice President and General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "We believe that Brad will help us both now and in the post season."

In a separate move with Elmira, the K-Wings have received the rights to defenseman Mike Dombkiewicz. In return, the Jackals will receive a player to be named at a later date from the K-Wings. In compliance of the trade agreement, the player the K-Wings will send the Jackals will be decided upon between the teams before or on the UHL Trade Deadline.

"With Darren Deschamps departure and an injury to Rumun Ndur we need to bring in solid defenseman," said Vice President and General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "In his short time in this league, Dombkiewicz has proven himself at the blue-line."

This season was Dombkiewicz's first in Elmira and his fourth as a professional. Before joining the Jackals, Dombkiewicz split time last season with the Kansas City Outlaws, the Richmond RiverDogs and the Missouri River Otters. In a combined 79 games played last year, the Buffalo, New York native scored 36 points (13 goals, 23 assists) and had 75 minutes of penalties

Both Church and Dombkiewicz will be eligible to make their K-Wings debut this Wednesday, January 11th, when the K-Wings start a five-game home stand against the Rockford IceHogs. Wednesday's game, which will face-off at 7 p.m., will also be Monaco Bay College Night.
