Simon Rizk fight in second period sparks Generals comeback

FLINT, MI - The 3,005 fans that gathered at Perani Arena tonight were relatively quiet as the Flint Generals started the second period down 2-0 to the Missouri River Otters. Shortly after a power play goal by Chad Cavanaugh got the Generals on the board Flint's Simon Rizk squared off with Matt Suderman of the River Otters. The fight ignited the crowd which in turn ignited the Generals. Two goals in just twelve seconds gave the Generals a 3-2 lead going into the third period. Mike Kinnie, playing in his first game of the season for the Generals, had a goal and two assists going into the third period. Kinnie quickly added his second goal of the game at the 5:02 mark of the third period giving the Generals a 4-2 lead. The Otters answered quickly only to have Leo Thomas give the Generals a 5-3 lead at the 9:18 mark. Brent Currie collected his third assist of the game on the goal. Missouri cut the Generals lead once again to 5-4 at the 10:43 mark..

The Generals would hold on to open the New Year with a 5-4 win over the Missouri River Otters. The Generals have now won three straight games, the longest winning streak of the season for the Generals. The win also puts the Generals one game over .500 and only 2 points behind Port Huron. The Generals also have three games in hand on the Flags.

The Generals are home again Saturday night as they face the Danbury Trashers. Game time is 7:35pm at Perani Arena & Event Center. Enter at you own Rizk.
