IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Idaho Falls continues to use the homestand against the Pioneer League North to propel themselves in the race with the Pioneer League South. A huge third inning allows the Chukars to cruise past the Osprey 11-2.
Robert Pehl doubled in the first run for Idaho Falls (26-24, 6-6) in the first inning. The knock by Pehl scored Ryan O'Hearn, was one o three hits on the game for the Washington product. It's the third straight three hit game for Pehl. On the other side, Eric Skoglund gave the Chukars a steadying presence on the mound. The left-hander went the first three innings, allowing just one unearned run.
The game was broken open in the third inning. Idaho Falls sent 12 batters to the plate. The Chukars took advantage of Touki Toussaint's wildness, after he walked two batters and hit another. Back-to-back hits knocked in a pair of runs, and Michael Hill later followed with a double. The Greybirds tallied six runs on four hits in the frame.
Michael Jeffreys (2-1) spun his second straight gem for Idaho Falls, this time in relief of Skoglund. The right-hander provided the bridge from the start of the fourth to the end of the eighth inning. In the five inning span, Jeffreys allowed just one run on a solo homer, gave up only four hits, and struck out six.
Idaho Falls has won three games in a row after taking the first game from Missoula. The Chukars have won five of their past six contests. For the second straight game, every Greybirds player who started reached base safely.
The Chukars continue the seven game homestand at Melaleuca Field on Thursday. Idaho Falls takes on Missoula in game two of the three game set.
