GF DROPS OPENER

In their first meeting of 2014, Grand Junction took an early lead and cruised to an 8-3 win over the Voyagers Friday night. The Rockies scored three in the first and never looked back as leading the entire way. Great Falls starter Zach Thompson was touched up for six runs, three earned, in five innings, taking the loss. After scoring one in the first, the Voyagers other two runs came in the sixth when Patrick Palmeiro had an RBI triple, then scored on an RBI single by Zach Stoner.

MASON'S MASHING

Outfielder Mason Robbins went 2-5 with a double and an RBI for Great Falls last night, extending his hitting streak to 17, the second longest streak in the Pioneer League this season. During the streak, the Leakesville, Miss., native is hitting .418 (33-79), and has 12 multi-hit efforts, including a career-high four on July 23 against Helena. This run has raised his season average from .215 to .326.

CHEVY DRIVES OFF

Outfielder Chevy Clarke was promoted to Low-A Kannapolis Saturday, becoming the eighth Voyager to be promoted this season. A former first round pick of the Angels, Clarke leads Great Falls in both homers and steals this season, with 10 of each. The Atlanta, Ga., native has also played in 47 of the Voyagers 51 games, more than anyone else. This will be the third different level Clarke has played at this year after starting the year with Inland Empire (A+, Los Angeles Angels).

MASTERFUL MARTINEZ

Venezuelan right-hander Luis Martinez will make his second start with Great Falls tonight after making a strong first impression with a win on Monday night against Orem. The 19-year old gave the Voyagers five innings in his Pioneer League debut, allowing one run on three hits while striking out six Owlz. Martinez has now struck out 46 in 38.0 innings this year (10.9 K/9).
