Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- A bright and windy afternoon led to a wild and whacky top of the first. The Chukars swayed by the four Rockies funs in that frame. The game's next seven runs went to Idaho Falls in a 7-6 win take the series at Melaleuca Field.
Chukars (6-8) starting pitcher Alec Mills was taken off the hook thanks to five Chukars runs in the first three innings. Aided by Rockies (8-6) errors each of those innings, Idaho Falls took advantage by hitting three sacrifice flies to plate three of those runs. Brandon Thomasson tallied an RBI single off James Lomangino in the first. It was the only hit that drove in a run.
Zach Lavvorn (2-1) came in for Mills in the third, and calmed the game down on the mound. He retired the first five batters he saw and didn't allow a multi-hit inning from the third to the seventh. He kept the Rockies out of the run column in that stretch.
Parker Morin provided some insurance in the bottom of the seventh in his second game back with Idaho Falls. He connected on a Cristian Quintin pitch and sent it over the right field wall. The solo shot gave the Chukars a 6-4 lead. Morin grounded into a double play next inning, but it scored a run to make it 7-4.
Zach Lavvorn began the ninth inning, but allowed a leadoff double. After he allowed another double to Renaldo Jenkins, he was removed from the game. The right-hander pitched 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits, two runs, while striking out five. Nick Green recorded the final out for the Greybirds first series win.
Idaho Falls plays the first of seven straight games against the Ogden Raptors tomorrow. Ogden has lost six games in a row. Jake Newberry is slated to start for the Chukars.
