Helena Brewers News Release

Late-game heroics were not enough for the Helena Brewers (6-7) as the Billings Mustangs (6-7) found a way to come out on top with a 4-3 win.

It was a pitcher's duel on Sunday afternoon as both starters went six innings allowing one run each. Helena's Jorge Ortega struck four without a walk in his outing while Luke Moran struck out five and walked two for Billings.

The Mustangs pulled ahead first when Garrett Boulware led off the second with a double. He advanced on a bunt from Argenis Aldazoro and later scored on a sacrifice from Alex Greer. Greer had two RBI on the day, a run scored and a double of his own.

Tucker Neuhaus tied the game up at 1-1 with his first professional homerun, a solo blast off Moran. Neuhaus went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

The hosting Mustangs regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh as Brandon Moore allowed two runs in his first inning of relief. Greer and Nick Benedetto picked up back-to-back RBI hits to make it a 3-1 advantage for the Mustangs.

Down to their last three outs, the Brewers pulled a rabbit out of the hat in the top of the ninth and overcame their 3-1 deficit. Neuhaus scored on a wild pitch and Jack Cleary picked up an RBI single to score Elvis Rubio to even things up at 3-3.

Luke Curtis (0-1) came in in relief in the bottom of nine, but would not last long. A leadoff walk for Boulware and an advance to second on a bunt put a runner in scoring position with no outs. Kevin Franklin then picked up his second hit of the day for a walkoff single to end it.

Helena now drops to a tie for third in the Pioneer League North Division with the loss.

The Brewers and Mustangs will face off in their series finale Monday at Dehler Park. First pitch from Billings is set for 7:05 p.m.
