Chris Wondolowski scores, extends all-time MLS record to 151 goals

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The San Jose Earthquakes completed an unbeaten road trip by earning a 1-1 draw on Saturday night against D.C. United, who entered the day atop the Eastern Conference. The Quakes are now 5-2-3 in their last 10 matches, their best 10-match stretch in a single season since Aug. 14 - Oct. 3, 2015 (5-2-3).

Chris Wondolowski scored San Jose's lone goal, his seventh in the last three matches, to give the Quakes the lead. D.C. United's Luciano Acosta then scored midway through the second half to level the match. The Earthquakes have lost only one of their last five road matches (1-1-3) dating back to April 24.

The Earthquakes will head back to Avaya Stadium to face FC Dallas on Saturday, June 8 (12:30 p.m. PT; Univision/KNBR 1050/1370 KZSF), presented by Wells Fargo. San Jose will be seeking their fifth consecutive home victory.

Forward Chris Wondolowski scored his seventh goal of the season and 151st of his MLS career, extending his own league record.

Wondolowski has scored seven goals in his last three matches, tied for second most over a three-match span in league history. It marked his career high over a three-match span.

Wondolowski has scored in three consecutive matches for the ninth time in his career and first time since April 2016.

Wondolowski scored his 70th career goal on the road, extending his own MLS record.

Defender Nick Lima tallied his first assist of the season and fourth of his MLS career.

Defender Paul Marie made the second start of his MLS career, playing 72 minutes.

The Earthquakes now hold a 17-15-8 all-time record against D.C. United.

San Jose now hold a 9-10-1 all-time record against D.C. United on the road.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH MATIAS ALMEYDA

On the match:

"I think it was a great game, played well by both teams. In the first half we controlled a lot of the possession. We surprised our opponents. We had 17 shots and finished the half up 1-0. The second half was a bit more balanced and they scored on a very unlucky rebound were our opponents showed their skill. It was a great match, a great spectacle."

On the team's performance:

"Everyone showed a great effort, there wasn't a single player that played better than the other. The whole group played well. Today we made three substitutions and the style of play continued to run well. That shows that we are doing well as a group."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER NICK LIMA

On the match:

"We came out in the first half and we had control of it and we kept the ball for long periods of time. We were working hard, and I thought it was a very good team performance. They got a goal there in the second half and they put a lot of pressure on us. I think we did well to weather it, at times. I think there are a couple of times we could have done better with our chances, but I think overall it's a good road trip and a growing team."

On the defense's performance:

"That was a focus, to come out with high energy from the beginning. We can't let them come out on the front foot and I think we did a good job of that. But they're a good team. And they had their chances, and I think we did a good job holding them to one."

On the road trip overall:

"I think we had a good trip, getting four points against two big teams. So, we are very proud of ourselves because we are working as a team. The group today is very pleased. The guys who came in did a very good job. We are very proud as a group because we are working hard, and the most important thing is to be together. Because this is the only way we can have success."

On the team's performance tonight:

"Every single player is giving their best. We are trying to be in good condition. So, this part of the work we do every day. I repeat again: we are very proud because we are playing as a team. And when you win playing in that way, you enjoy it a lot. We have no stars. We don't win or have very good games because of individuals. It's all about the team. We are very proud."
