Real Salt Lake News Release

HARRISON, NJ - Real Salt Lake (6-8-1, 19 points) fell 4-0 at the hands of the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night, seeing its two-match trip to the East Coast come to a close.

RSL fell under pressure early in the first half as the Red Bulls test GK Nick Rimando on several occasion's forcing the veteran goalkeeper to come up with four saves in the first half to keep the match at 0-0 heading into halftime.

Postgame Quotes from RSL v NYRB

RSL was forced into a change at the halftime break as MF Kyle Beckerman entered the match for the injured MF Nick Besler in the midfield. Through 57 minutes of the match, Rimando and the RSL defense stood steady in goal to keep the Red Bulls attack at bay. However, the Red Bulls came out firing in the second half, scoring three goals in seven minutes to jump out to a three-goal lead. The first goal - RSL's first own goal in regular season play since opening day in 2018 - glanced off of DF Marcelo Silva before finding the net before Daniel Royer found the host's second goal. Frantic defending in the box from RSL led to the game's third goal from Michael Murillo who caught a deflection on his shot before the ball trickled into the net.

The Red Bulls added a fourth goal through Omir Fernnandez in the 83rd minute, bringing the scoreline to 4-0 to sink RSL.

UP NEXT: Real Salt Lake will now see a nearly three-week break from MLS action but will host LAFC in the fourth round of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, June 11 at 8:00p MT.

GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN:

NYRB: Marcelo Silva (Own Goal), 58th minute: A ball played across the face of the area by Michael Murillo wasn't cleared by RSL's backline before deflecting off of Silva and into the back of the net.

NYRB: Daniel Royer (Alejandro Romero Garnarra, Sean Davis), 59th minute: A through ball from Kaku found the open run of Royer who did well to control the ball on the run. Royer took a tough towards goal before calmly slotting the ball past Rimando for the game's second goal.

NYRB: Michael Murillo, 64th minute: A scramble after a cross into the box saw the ball fall to the feet of Murillo before he took a low shot that caught a deflection on the way in from seven yards for the game's third goal.

NYRB: Omir Fernandez (Andreas Ivan, Michael Murillo), 83rd minute: A strong move down the right side of the field opened up space for a low cross from Ivan that found the run of Fernandez. Fernandez easily beat his defender to the ball to fire the shot into the back of the net to seal the game.
