Chicago Fire FC News Release
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - Chicago Fire Soccer Club midfielder Djordje Mihailovic has been called into camp with the U.S. Men's National Team ahead of the June 5 friendly against Jamaica in Washington, D.C. The announcement marks the 20-year-old midfielder's second call-up to the U.S. Men's National Team. He was previously called into this year's annual January training camp.
U.S. MNT head coach Gregg Berhalter has summoned 19 additional senior players to training camp in Annapolis, Md., bringing the total number to 28 that will train in advance of the rematch of the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup final against Jamaica on June 5 in Washington, D.C. Kickoff for the USA's first visit to Audi Field is set for 6 p.m. CT, and the match will be broadcast live on FS1, UniMas and UDN.
The final list of 23 players for the Gold Cup is due by midnight of June 5. The official announcement will take place the following day.
Following the Jamaica game, the MNT will make its first visit to Cincinnati and will face Venezuela on June 9 in its final preparation match for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup. Kickoff at Nippert Stadium is set for 1 p.m. CT, and the match will be broadcast on FOX and UniMás.
On January 27, 2019, Mihailovic earned his first senior U.S. cap, delivering a 40th-minute goal in the USMNT's 3-0 international friendly win over Concacaf foe Panama. In addition to becoming the 52nd player in U.S. Men's National Team history to score on his debut -- and doing so exactly two years to the day that he signed his Homegrown contract with the Fire on Jan. 27, 2017 -- Mihailovic was active on and off the ball in his 62-minute shift, facilitating the U.S. attack from his spot on the left wing. On February 2, 2019, Mihailovic started and played 63 mintues in a 2-0 win against Costa Rica in San Jose, California, to wrap up the team's annual January training camp.
Mihailovic has previously featured for the United States at the youth international level. After spending time in the U.S. U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla., the midfielder made two appearances for the U.S. U-19 Men's National Team. Mihailovic scored two goals for the U-19s in 2016, including the game winners against Mauritania in the 2016 COTIF Tournament in Valencia, Spain, on July 28, 2016, and against Hungary in the Stevan-Vilotic Cele Tournament in Topola, Serbia, on Sept. 5, 2016.
Since signing with the Fire as a Homegrown Player on Jan. 27, 2017, Mihailovic has made 41 appearances (27 starts) in MLS play for the Men in Red, tallying four goals and six assists.
