CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, May 6, 2010) - Chivas USA will wear a special camouflage jersey for this Saturday's match against the Houston Dynamo at 7:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center, as part of the team's celebration of Armed Forces Night. Chivas USA will be the first MLS club to wear a special uniform honoring the Armed Forces, and the special jerseys are part of a night full of celebrations dedicated to our nation's heroes, and to raise money for the USO of Los Angeles and San Diego.
Chivas USA will wear a blue jersey with a special camouflage pattern printed on the front (see attached images) on Saturday, a night full of events dedicated to the military, such as a Naval swearing-in ceremony at ChivaTown prior to the match, a Marine coin toss picture, a first kick ceremony with a chief Navy officer, and much more.
All of the groups that will be present at the game will wear their service uniforms and, along with children of service members, will participate in many celebrations throughout the night. Among the groups attending the match will be representatives from Edwards Air Force Base, Los Angeles Air Force Base, Fort Irwin, Marine Corps Logistics Base, China Lake Naval Weapons Center, Port Hueneme Naval Base, and Port Mugu Pacific Missile Test Center, as well as USO locations including Palm Springs, Bob Hope, San Diego, and Ontario.
Other aspects of Saturday night's festivities include a color guard, a service member singing the National Anthem, and children of Armed Forces members serving as the ball kids.' At halftime, there will be a match between youth soccer teams from military bases, as well as a special halftime performance by the ChivaGirls. During halftime, Chivas USA will also recognize three service men for their outstanding and dedicated work in the military.
In addition, Chivas USA will offer service men and women a 35% discount at the Team LA store when showing their military ID, and the first 7500 fans through the gates will receive a commemorative Armed Forces hat. For more information on this special event, please call 1-877-CHIVAS-1.
