
Chivas USA Selects Five Players in 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft

Carson, CA. (Tuesday, January 17, 2012) - Chivas USA announced today that it drafted five players during today's 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft which took place via conference call with all 19 MLS Teams represented. Supplemental Draft consisted of four rounds of 19 selections each. The Red and White had five selections; one in the first round (fifth pick overall) and four in the second round (24th, 28th, 30th, 37th overall).
RJ Allen, Daniel Steres, and Kevin Venegas will report to Chivas USA training camp in Carson tomorrow. Rowe and Kling will report to the Red-and-White organization in the following days.
The player selection was as follows:
* RJ Allen - Defender, Monmouth University, Old Bridge, N.J. - First round, 5th pick overall
* Brian Rowe - Goalkeeper, UCLA, Eugene, OR. - Second round, 24th pick overall
* Daniel Steres - Defender, SDSU, Calabasas, CA. - Second round, 28th pick overall
* Fabian Kling - Defender, Fort Lewis College, Augsburg, GER - Second round, 30th pick overall
* Kevin Venegas - Midfielder, CSUF, Lakewood, CA. - Second round, 37th pick overall
Allen, 20, finished his collegiate career with 37 points on seven goals and 23 assists. He scored five game-winning goals and helped the Hawks to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and two NCAA Second Round games. Allen helped Monmouth to four-straight Northeast Conference Regular-Season Championships and three-straight NEC Tournament Championships.
Rowe, 23, had an outstanding 2011 season for the Bruins, posting a single-season best 12 shutouts. He also finished the year with a 0.75 GAA and recorded a Pac-12 best 0.20 GAA in conference play, which helped him earn first-team All-Pac-12 honors. His 12 shutouts are the most by a Bruin goalie since Eric Reed had 12 back in 2005 and he finished the year with 69 saves. Finally, Rowe earned second-team All-America and first-team All-Far West acclaim from the NSCAA while also being named a second-team All-American by Soccer America.
Steres, 20, Picked as co-captain at SDSU in 2011. In 2010 was All-Pac-10 (Second Team) and tri-captain of the squad. College Soccer News National Team of the Week (Sept. 20). Middleton Sports and Fitness Festival Most Valuable Defensive Player and All-Tournament Team. In 2009 All-Pac-10 (Honorable Mention), Pac-10 All-Academic Team (Honorable Mention), and Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central All-Tournament Team. For 2008, Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Most Valuable Defensive Player and SDSU/USD all-tournament team.
Kling, 24, was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Player of the Year last month after guiding Fort Lewis to its third NCAA-II national championship [second in Kling's career]. He finished his collegiate career with 86 games played for the Skyhawks, of which 85 were starts. Scored 28 goals, had 5 assists in 97 total shots on goal.
Venegas, 22, developed into a primary offensive force in 2010 after flashes of scoring as an underclassman. Is rated No. 98 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's list of the top 100 collegiate senior professional prospects. Second on the team with 7 goals and shared the Big West Conference lead with 4 game-winning scores. Earned first-team All-Big West honors. Fourth in the conference with his 7 goals. One of only two Titans (with Mark Nelson) to start all 21 matches. His career totals at CSUF are 56 matches of which 47 were starts. Scored 10 goals and had 5 assists.
