Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
Mequon, Wisconsin - The Chinooks have been on another level the past couple of games, and their strong play continued against the Green Bay Rockers. The weather had an impact at Moonlight Graham Field. Strong winds, lightning, and some rain caused an early end to the game after seven innings. In the first game of the series against the Rockers, the Chinooks looked unstoppable with their three phases clicking on all cylinders.
Joe Glassey started his second game for the Chinooks and continued his success on the mound. The University of Illinois pitcher had an efficient night through his four innings of work. He only gave up two hits, one walk, and one earned run. He helped keep the Rockers bats quiet all night. So far this season, Glassey has a 1.29 ERA and 7 strikeouts.
The Chinooks offense couldn't be shut down all night by any of the Rockers pitchers. In the shortened seven-inning game, the Chinooks scored at least one run in every inning except the 5th. Will Semb was starting pitcher for the Rockers and couldn't get anything going in the bottom of the 1st. The Chinooks scored 3 runs right away with the help of a Caden Kaiser RBI sac fly. Josh Johnson and Aiden Longwell each hit RBI singles to extend the Chinooks lead to 3-0 heading into the 2nd.
Peyton Sanderson had the crucial hit of the night for the Chinooks. He slammed his first home run of the season to give the Chinooks a 4-0 lead just in the 2nd inning. The Rockers responded back in the top half of the 3rd inning with Brendan Ryan getting the lone RBI for the Rockers on a sac fly. The Rockers had bases loaded and a big run-scoring opportunity that they weren't able to cash in thanks to Glassey and stellar Chinooks defense getting out of the jam.
Aiden Longwell got another RBI to make it a 5-1 game in the 3rd. Tony Livermore also chipped in with a 2-run-scoring single to lift the Chinooks up to a 7-1 lead. Caleb Bartolero had another solid game going 2 for 4. He hit his one RBI to add an insurance run to make it 8-1. All 9 batters in the Chinooks lineup reached base at least once by the end of the 4th inning. The Chinooks lineup spread around the run support as Josh Johnson hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 6th that got the final run in for a 9-1 lead.
Kanan Butler and Tim Baird pitched three scoreless innings combined to help finish the game for the Chinooks. Neither pitcher gave up a hit and had a combined three strikeouts. Butler got the win as his record stands at 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA.
The Chinooks extend their winning streak to 3 games and have won 9 of their last 13 games after a tough 2-8 start to the season. They're only 1 game behind for second place in the Great Lakes West division, but remain 9.5 games back of the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters for the top. The Chinooks play the final game of a two-game series tomorrow against the Rockers in Green Bay at Capital Credit Union Park. First pitch is set for 6:35pm.
