Rochester Honkers News Release
WATERLOO, IA - The Rochester Honkers won their second game in a row on Tuesday night, defeating the Waterloo Bucks 6-2 at Riverfront Stadium.
The Honkers got off to a fast start tonight. With the bases loaded in the first inning Will Asby (Sacramento City College) gave Rochester a 2-0 lead with a two run single. After Asby was Kimo Fukofuka (San Jose State) who hit a three-run home run that was just fair down the right field line making it 5-0 Honkers.
Still ahead 5-0 in the seventh the Honkers added another run. After Alex Ritzer (UNC) stole second base, Theo Hardy (San Jose State) drove him in with a single to left center making it 6-0.
Lance Santerre (University of San Francisco) was the scheduled starter for the Honkers but after he didn't feel 100% during warmups Frank Craska (Lafayette College) was tabbed with the spot start. Finding out he was starting less than 10 minutes before first pitch Craska delivered and then some. He pitched the longest outing of any Honker starter this summer, going seven and two-thirds innings allowing two runs. He did it getting most of his outs on the ground. Craska recorded 14 ground ball outs picking up his first win of the season.
The Bucks made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth. With Rochester ahead 6-2 the first two Waterloo batters reached to start the inning. However, Carson Revay (Fresno State) entered and put out the fire in his Honkers debut. Kimo Fukofuka made a leaping catch for the first out and Revay induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the ballgame. In his first Honkers appearance Revay got three gigantic outs and picked up the save.
The Honkers win their second in a row and improve to 9-12 this summer. They'll look for the series sweep back home tomorrow night with Jakob Guardado (Pasadena City) making his first start of the season. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. from Mayo Field.
