Syracuse, N.Y. - The Chiefs got back on track Thursday night after losing back to back games with an 8-1 win to close out their series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. It was the ninth win of the year for North Division-leading Syracuse. The loss drops Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to 7-7.

Third baseman Chase Lambin got the Chiefs off to a good start, slamming a towering shot over the right field wall to make it 3-0. It ended up being all the offense that Syracuse needed as Chiefs pitchers limited the Yankees to only one run and six hits. The one run came on a second-inning sacrifice fly off the bat of designated hitter Jon Weber.

Syracuse broke it open again in the seventh inning as Eric Bruntlett, Roger Bernadina and Kevin Mench all came around to score in the inning for the Chiefs. The Bruntlett-Bernadina-Mench trio accounted for six of Syracuse's eight runs. Second baseman Seth Bynum went two for four with a double.

Josh Wilkie recorded his second win of the season for Syracuse. He pitched three shutout innings to relieve Chiefs starter Shairon Martis, who left after four innings and 90 pitches. Overall, the Chiefs bullpen only allowed three hits over five innings.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Jason Hirsh was charged with his third loss of the year. The 6-foot-8 righthander tossed six innings, surrendering five runs on six hits. Kevin Whelan came on in relief of Hirsh in the seventh. He only lasted 2/3 of an inning, giving up three hits and two earned runs before being pulled in favor of Zack Segovia.

With the win, Syracuse split the two game set with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Friday night the Chiefs begin a four game series against the Rochester Red Wings. Former Detroit Tigers starter Mike Maroth gets the nod for Rochester. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m at Alliance Bank Stadium.
