PEORIA, IL- After scoring only two runs in three games in their previous series, the Peoria Chiefs exploded for six runs, all in the first four innings, in a 6-5 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Friday night. The win improves the Chiefs record to 4-4, while Bowling Green falls to 2-6 on the season.

The Chiefs got the scoring going in the second, when Kenny Peoples-Walls doubled with one out, and Cesar Valera singled him in for a 1-0 lead. The lead was short-lived as Johnny Field homered to left against Silfredo Garcia in the third with two outs to give the Hot Rods a 2-1 lead.

Peoria answered with a two-run homer of their own in the bottom of the inning as Ronald Castillo blasted his first of the year, a mammoth drive to left field which also plated Mason Katz who reached on a fielder's choice.

The Chiefs added on in the fourth when Steve Bean and Valera singled with one out. Michael Schulze hit into a force out, and the Chiefs had runners at the corners. CJ McElroy, Jr. doubled home Bean for a 4-2 cushion. Juan Herrera singled to plate Schulze and McElroy, capping the Peoria scoring.

Bowling Green got two back in the fifth when Kean Wong walked and stole second, and Field singled him to third. Field stole second, and Wong scored when Bean's throw sailed into centerfield. Field stole third and scored the Hot Rods fourth run on a passed ball, but Garcia got out of the inning with the lead. Blake McKnight sailed through the sixth and seventh before allowing an eighth inning leadoff homerun to Grandon Goetzman. McKnight came out with two away in the inning for Zach Loraine, who needed one pitch to strand a runner at first. Loraine allowed a two-out hit in the ninth but finished off the victory.

Garcia (1-1) worked the first five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits, with four walks and three strikeouts. McKnight went the next 2 2/3 innings to earn his first hold, giving up just the solo homerun with two walks and two strikeouts. Loraine threw the final 1 1/3 innings on one hit and a strikeout for his first save.
