
Kane County Sneaks Past Captains 6-4

Lake County Captains News Release
(Geneva, IL)- Kane County added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning and went on to defeat the Captains by a final of 6-4. With one out in a one run game, Carlos Penalver hit a bunt single down the third base line. Jordan Milbrath of the Captains fielded the ball, and his throw went into the Captains bullpen. Penalver went all the way to third base. Penalver scored on a sacrifice fly by Ben Carhart and the Cougars took the 6-4 lead. 6-4 was the final score. The Captains (4-4) have dropped three straight games.
The Cougars (5-3) scored in the bottom of the first inning. With one out Yasiel Balagurt singled home Carlos Penalver and the score was 1-0. Balagurt eventually scored on a two base error when the ball was dropped at first base. The score after one inning was 2-0 Kane County.
The Captains answered right back in the top of the second inning. With one out, Nellie Rodriguez smacked his second homer of the year, a solo shot, to center and it was 2-1. Brian Ruiz singled with two outs and Cody Ferrell gave the Captains the lead by belting his third homer of the season over the left field wall. The score was 3-2 Lake County headed to the bottom of the second.
In the bottom of the frame, Kane County scored three times to retake the lead. The Cougars got back-to-back walks to begin the inning. With one out a groundout by Penalver tied the game at 3-3. Ben Carhart then doubled home the go-ahead run. Carhart raced around third and scored on an RBI triple from Balagurt and the score was 5-3 Kane County.
Nellie Rodriguez homered for the second time in the game in the top of the sixth inning, and the Captains briefly closed the gap to 5-4.
RHP Caleb Hamrick (0-2) got the start for Lake County and pitched four innings. Hamrick took the loss. Hamrick allowed five runs, four were earned and he walked three and did not strike anybody out. Jordan Milbrath entered in relief for the Captains and pitched four innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits and two walks. Milbrath struck out three.
The Cougars RHP Daury Torrez (1-0) started for Kane County and earned the win. Torrez twirled five and one third innings, and allowed seven hits, four earned runs two walks and three homeruns. He also fanned two. Nathan Dorris pitched two and two thirds of scoreless baseball in relief, he allowed just one hit and struck out three. Zack Godley struck out the side in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
The Captains will remain to Geneva, Illinois on Saturday to take on the Kane County Cougars in game two of a three game series. RHP Adam Plutko (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Captains and the Cougars will start RHP Juan Paniagua (0-0, 4.50). First Pitch is at 2:00 PM from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
