The weather is heating up and so are your Cedar Rapids Kernels as they return home for a six game home stand with games against South Bend and West Michigan. Here's a preview of what you can expect these next six games:
April 14-16 vs. South Bend
The Kernels open a six game home stand with three games against the South Bend Silver Hawks, the Midwest League affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
It's our first Dollar Monday of the season. Regular hot dogs, popcorn, chips, ice cream sandwiches and Cracker Jack are each $1 all game long. Plus, get $1 taquitos at the Hacienda Las Glorias / La Cantina Mexican cart during the game. Gates open at 5:30 pm and first pitch between the Kernels and South Bend is set for 6:35 pm.
Here's a great deal from the Kernels and Great Clips. It's Twins Tuesday, presented by Great Clips. Get a 2 for 1 ticket offer when fans bring the special Twins Tuesday coupon to the Kernels Ticket Office that can be found through the Kernels Facebook page and email newsletter. The Kernels will wear special jerseys every Tuesday home game and one lucky fan will win a pair of tickets to a Twins game. First pitch between the Kernels and Silver Hawks is 6:35 pm and the gates open at 5:30 pm.
Who wants free money? You'll want to be here when the gates open at 5:30 pm on Free Money Wednesday, presented by First Federal Credit Union. $500 will be given out by First Federal at the main gates with the top cash prize of $100 EVERY Wednesday home game. First pitch between the Kernels and South Bend is set for 6:35 pm.
April 17-19 vs. West Michigan
The Kernels continue a six game home stand with three games against the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Midwest League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.
Get here when the gates open at 5:30 pm for Z 102.9 Thirsty Thursday where 12 oz. regular draft beer and 20 oz. bottled soda and water are just $2.00 all game, plus get $1 off margaritas at the Hacienda Las Glorias / La Cantina Mexican Cart. College students - show your college ID and receive a club ticket and two slices of pizza for just $7 every Thursday home game on Little Caesar's College Night. First pitch between the Kernels and Whitecaps is set for 6:35 pm.
You'll want to be here when the gates open at 5:30 pm on Friday, April 18th as the first 1,000 fans through the gates receive a free Kernels Stocking Cap thanks to the Best Western Longbranch and the first 500 fans receive a 2014 Kernels Team Photo thanks to Wells Fargo and Copyworks. It's a 98.1 KHAK Friday Mug Club. Buy a 16 oz. souvenir mug of soda or regular draft beer for $6 and get refills at the concession stand for just $3. Bring your mug back to every Friday home game for the same refill special all season long. The Kernels welcome special guests from Kenwood Elementary to the game and are set to take on West Michigan at 6:35 pm.
Take advantage of some springtime afternoon baseball when the Kernels take on West Michigan at 2:05 pm on Saturday, April 19th. Stick around after the game for our Helicopter Candy Drop for boys and girls ages 12-under. After the game, a helicopter flies over the stadium, dropping candy and soft toss baseballs onto the field. After the drop, boys and girls can go out onto the field and pick up the candy. The kids will be broken down by age so the younger ones get their share of the candy! The Kernels welcome special guests from Borlaug and Viola Gibson Elementary and the Cedar Rapids Aquatics Association to the game. Gates open at 1:00 pm.
Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium Daily Specials!
Run the Bases Sunday, sponsored by Planet X: After every Sunday home game, kids (and adults) can run the bases, play catch on the field and get autographs from the Kernels, sponsored by Planet X with media sponsor 104.5 KDAT. During the game, play Travel Advisors Baseball Bingo, co-sponsored by the Radisson near Mall of America for a chance to win a trip to Minneapolis and see a Twins game. Enjoy the balloon artistry of Papa Balloon on the concourse and face painting by Kennedy. Magician Jackson Green will entertain at Sunday home games, starting June 15th.

Tickets for all Kernel home games are available on-line at www.kernels.com; in person at the Kernels Ticket Office, or by calling 896-7560 during Ticket Office Hours. The Kernels Ticket Office is open from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The ticket office is closed on Sunday, but opens at 11 am on Kernel Sunday Home games.
