
Chiefs Travel To Prince George For A Pair

The Spokane Chiefs will be kicking off their 23rd season of WHL hockey when they travel to the Prince George Cougars for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday night. Spokane will play five road games before they open the home portion of the season on Saturday, October 6th against the Tri-City Americans.
LAST SEASON
The Spokane Chiefs finished last season with a 36-28-4-4 record and 80 points, fourth in the WHL's U.S. Division. Four of the five teams in the U.S. Division finished at least eight games above .500. The Chiefs had an 11 game turnaround in wins and finished with 22 more points than the previous year. The Chiefs also scored 38 more goals than they did the previous season. Spokane finished the season with a 22-10-13 mark at home and a 14-18-3-1 record on the road.
VS. PRINCE GEORGE
The Chiefs will travel to open the season and take on the Cougars in their only two games in Prince George this season. Spokane will host Prince George twice in a five day span in November, on the 13th and the 17th. Spokane was 3-1 last year versus Prince George, including a pair of wins in P.G. on back-to-back nights on December 27th and 28th, one of them in overtime. Judd Blackwater led returning Chiefs with two goals and seven points, including four power play points, in four games. Mitch Wahl finished the series against the Cougars with a +4. In three appearances, Kevin Armstrong was 2-1 while Dustin Tokarski won his only start. Spokane finished 7-30 (23.3%) on the power play. Prince George scored the first goal in three of the four games. Three of the four games were tied at the end of 40-minutes.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH at KOOTENAY ICE

Spokane will travel to Cranbrook, BC for the first of five meetings on the year against the Ice. The Chiefs will play three times at Kootenay and host the Ice twice. The next four match-ups will be home-and-home series on December 28th and 29th and February 1st and 2nd with Kootenay hosting the first game each time. The Chiefs were 1-3-0-1 against the Ice last year. David Rutherford had two goals and six points, Ondøej Roman had one goal and five points. Drayson Bowman scored three goals and was +3 in four games. The team that led after the second period was 4-0. One game was tied after the second.
