Syracuse, N.Y. - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, grabbed a 7-2 win over the Rochester Red Wings Wednesday night at Alliance Bank Stadium. The Chiefs have now won four in a row and eight out of their last 10. The Red Wings have lost 10 in a row.

Syracuse broke open a 0-0 tie with four runs in the fifth. Carlos Maldonado led off the frame with a single to center. Michael Martinez smacked a single to right two batters later to move Maldonado up to second. Rochester starter Anthony Swarzak walked Brian Bixler in the next at bat to load the bases with one out. After the walk, Jason Botts blasted a line drive homer over the right field wall to put the Chiefs on top 4-0. It was Syracuse's second grand slam of the season and the first home run for Botts since July 26th at Durham.

The Red Wings tallied runs in the sixth and seventh innings to trim the Syracuse advantage to two.

Brandon Roberts lofted a single into center and Brock Peterson walked against Chiefs righthander Yunesky Maya to put a couple men on for rightfielder Dustin Martin. Martin rolled a single into center, knocking home Roberts with the first Rochester run of the night.

The Red Wings' second run came across on a fielding error by shortstop Michael Martinez with two outs in the seventh.

The Chiefs came back for three more runs in the eighth to make it 7-2. Leonard Davis started a two-out rally with a single to right, moving Pete Orr up to second base. Maldonado ripped a double into deep left in the next at bat to score Orr. Martinez kept the inning going with a single up the middle. The hit plated two more Syracuse runs and it gave Martinez his third hit of the night.

Maya registered his first win for Syracuse. He gave up six hits and an earned run over his 5 2/3 innings of work. Maya's ERA now sits at 0.87 in two starts with the Chiefs. The righthander struck out three and walked two.

Swarzak lost for the 11th time. He allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings for the Red Wings.

The Chiefs will play their final home game of the regular season Thursday night at Alliance Bank Stadium. Syracuse will send major league rehabber Ross Detwiler (NR) to the mound against Rochester righthander Cole DeVries (0-1, 4.42). First pitch will be at 7:10.
