Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Chiefs played host to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday Night for the always emotional Chiefs Fight Cancer game presented by Inland Imaging. The players wore specialty jerseys, pre-game capes, and played with a special Chiefs Fight Cancer game puck. The game worn jerseys were auctioned off throughout the game with funds benefitting one of the Chiefs' charity partners, Every Woman Can. Brody Gillespie was called up to the game tonight for just his second game since being drafted #1 Overall in the U.S. priority draft last summer.
Tonight marked the first game versus the Warriors since a visit to Moose Jaw in December of 2022 when the Chiefs came away with a 5-2 victory. It was the Warriors who jumped out front in this one, scoring two goals in the first three minutes. Lakovic scored his 14th of the season after cleaning up a loose rebound in front of net in the first minute, and Schuurman found the goal for the17th time this season less than two minutes later.
Moose Jaw would score another quick pair of goals later in the period to make it 4-0. McKenzie and Calvert netted within a minute of each other to extend the lead.
The Warriors extended the lead in the second period despite Spokane finding the net twice. After two the score was 10-2 in favor of Moose Jaw.
Conner Roulette potted his 37th of the season for Spokane's first goal at 10:18 in the second, while Chase Harrington scored at 14:07 for his fourth of the season. Lukáš Král and Nathan Mayes provided the helpers.
The third period slowed down with just two goals from the road team. Berkly Catton found the net for Spokane, his 43rd of the season, at 10:27 in the third.
Catts strikes again for the 43rd time this season, this time on the power play.
Spokane's special teams were a bright spot in this blowout, going 2/5 on the power play and 4/4 on the penalty kill.
