Tri-City Americans News Release

Kennewick, WA - In front of over 5,600 fans and on a pink ice surface, the Tri-City Americans picked up a 5-3 win over the Regina Pats Saturday night at the Toyota Center.

Donning special pink jerseys for the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night, the Americans jumped ahead early thanks to Carter MacAdams. All five Americans players gained the Regina line off the rush before Parker Bell sent a cross-ice pass to MacAdams who beat Kelton Pyne for his 12th goal of the season.

Brandon Whynott doubled the lead for the Americans by jumping on a rebound from a Lukas Dragicevic point shot, putting Tri-City ahead 2-0 with 1:45 remaining in the opening period.

The Pats would cut the lead in half thanks to a late power play goal from Tye Spencer, sending the two teams to the locker room with the Americans holding a 2-1 lead. Shots read 11-8 Tri-City through 20 minutes.

Early in the second period the Americans' two-goal lead was restored. Kainoah Brankovic sent a stretch pass to Jake Sloan who had a step on the Pats defense, coming in on a partial breakaway and snapping a shot past the blocker of Pyne for his 25th of the year. Brankovic picked up his first WHL point on the goal.

The score remained 3-1 Tri-City until late in the period when Regina got to within one again. Dru Mushumanski tried to send the puck from the slot to the right wing for Brayden Barnett, but the pass was broken up and came back to him. Mushumanski tried to make the pass again and this time he found Barnett who beat Lukas Matecha through the five hole to make it a one-goal game heading into the third period.

The 3-2 lead remained in tact for the opening 15 minutes of the third period until Andrew Fan gave the Americans their third two-goal lead of the night. After Pyne made a wonderful stop on Jackson Smith, stretching over to his glove side on a centering feed, the rebound was batted out of the air by a Pats defenseman.

The puck rolled toward the left circle where it was gathered by Fan who sent a shot to the net through traffic, beating a screened Pyne for his seventh of the season with 4:50 remaining in regulation.

Regina wasn't about to go quietly however as Sam Oremba brought his team to within one by scoring with 2:17 to go. The Pats then pulled Pyne for the extra attacker, pouring on the pressure trying to tie the game.

Tri-City was able to withstand the pressure before Sloan got the puck to the neutral zone and swung it across the ice for Bell, sealing the win with an empty netter.

The Americans four-game home stand continues next weekend when they welcome the Victoria Royals to the Toyota Center on Friday night.
