Spokane Chiefs News Release
Lethbridge, Alta. - The Spokane Chiefs clinched a berth into the 2020 WHL Playoffs with a 6-3 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday night. Adam Beckman led the way with his third-career five-point game while veteran forward Eli Zummack tallied his 200th career point.
The Chiefs got things started with a pair of goals from 2020 NHL Draft prospects as Bear Hughes and Jack Finley made it 2-0 headed into the first intermission.
Luke Toporowski scored his first of two goals early in the second to make it 3-0, capping a nice delayed feed from linemate Leif Mattson for his 21st of the year. Eli Zummack earned the assist with the initial breakout pass on the play.
The Hurricanes answered with scores from Logan Barlage and Zack Stringer to close out the period and make it a 3-2 Chiefs lead after two.
Beckman made a nice play in tight to tuck one in on a rebound of a Noah King shot just 27 seconds into the third, pushing the Spokane lead back to two. The Minnesota Wild prospect assisted on Toporowski's second of the night just over three minutes later as Spokane scored on a delayed penalty.
A Brett Davis goal for Lethbridge made it a game late but Beckman tapped his second goal of the night into an empty net to seal it.
Lukas Parik started in goal for the Chiefs and was outstanding, turning aside 41 of 44 Lethbridge shots. Carl Tetachuk earned the nod for the Hurricanes and went 22-for-27.
Spokane finished 1-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The Chiefs will continue their road trip on Friday night in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The game marks a return to Swift Current for head coach Manny Viveiros and defenseman Noah King, who helped the Broncos to a WHL Championship in 2017.

Mike Boyle will have the radio call from Swift Current on Friday, with the pre-game show starting at 4:30 p.m. PST and puck drop at 5.
