Broncos Rack up Chances in Loss to Americans

SWIFT CURRENT, SK - The Swift Current Broncos (10-40-1-3) had plenty of chances to score against the Tri-City Americans (17-32-4-1) Wednesday night, but couldn't capitalize before the Americans scored five-unanswered goals in a 5-1 final.
Wednesday's game was the annual Talk Today game presented by the Swift Current branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association. By hosting the event, the Broncos are helping elimante the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health issues and encouraging discussion within the community about mental health.
The Broncos opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game as D-Jay Jerome finished off an odd-man rush with his 18th of the season, assisted by Bode Hagan and Raphael Pelletier. The Broncos led 1-0 after one.
The second period started well for Swift Current as they were outshooting the Americans 7-1 in the period at one point before Tri-City tied the game.
The puck was caught in skates in front of the Broncos net before Connor Bouchard poked it loose to Blake Stevenson who beat Isaac Poulter over the glove to tie the game 7:25 into the second.
The Broncos continued to rack up chances in the second, holding a 25-19 shot lead through 40 minutes.
The game fell apart for the Broncos in the third as the Americans found their scoring touch. Three and a half minutes in, Marc Lajoie knocked home the second rebound after Poulter made two stellar saves in tight to give Tri-City the lead.
At the 6:52 mark Landon Roberts scored his first WHL goal, firing a wrist shot from the slot that beat Poulter over the blocker.
Just 1:20 later, Sasha Mutala finished off a passing play to extend the Americans lead to 4-1. Parker Hendren was given a five-minute major for slashing shortly after the goal.
Tri-City added one goal during the major as Edge Lambert rounded out the scoring at 12:21 of the third. Mason Dunsford was excellent in the Americans net, turning aside 41 Broncos shots.
Swift Current hosts the Spokane Chiefs Friday night.
Announced attendance was 1,996.
