Spokane Chiefs News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs climbed out of an early two-goal deficit on Saturday night, using overtime to complete the come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Victoria Royals. Czech defenseman and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Filip Kral capped the comeback with the game-winner.
With both sides playing their second game in as many nights, offense was slow rolling out of the gates. Victoria's Jacob Herauf gave the Royals the 1-0 lead with a wraparound score at 12:08 of the first. Victoria struck again minutes later as Gary Haden punched one in to push the lead to 2-0 entering the first intermission.
Post Falls, Idaho native Bear Hughes answered with a goal for the Chiefs at 15:32 of the second to pull Spokane within one, but less than a minute later it was back to a two-score deficit following a bump-up shift score from Victoria's team-leading scorer Tarun Fizer.
Spokane flipped the script during the third period, dominating shots on goal 17-5 and applying pressure to Royals netminder Brock Gould. Erik Atchison scored his fifth of the season and second of the weekend at 9:35 to make it 3-2. Minnesota Wild prospect Adam Beckman ripped one inside the right post at 12:52 to tie things at 3-3.
Kral came through with the game-winner for Spokane, streaking up the right side before flipping a shot off a Victoria skate and in to deliver the 4-3 victory.
Chiefs goaltender Campbell Arnold went 19-for-22 in net while Gould finished 30-for-34 for the Royals. The Chiefs were held without a power play chance for the second consecutive game, but also held the Royals 0-for-2.
