Swift Current Broncos News Release
SWIFT CURRENT, SK - The Swift Current Broncos (6-15-1-2) returned home hoping to bounce back after a 4-1 loss in Prince Albert against the Raiders (18-5-3-1) but Saturday night the final score read the same as the Raiders swept the weekend series.
Prince Albert opened the scoring when Daniil Stepanov tipped Reece Vitelli's shot off the rush 11:46 into the first period.
In the final minute, with the Raiders on the power play, Prince Albert was the beneficiary of a fortuitous bounce. Aliaksei Protas's shot from the left circle bounced off Hendrik De Klerk's shinpad then off Brayden Watts' skate and into the net before Isaac Poulter could react. The goal came with just 18 seconds left in the first.
Sergei Alkhimov was run over in the neutral zone by Jeremy Masella in the final seconds of the period, giving the Broncos a power play to start the second.
While the Broncos couldn't score on the man advantage, they did shortly after. Alkhimov forced a turnover on a pinching Raiders defenceman and started a 3-on-1 rush the other way.
Alkhimov came down the left wing and fired the puck over the shoulder of Carter Serhyenko to begin an avalanche of stuffed animals at the iPlex.
When play resumed, the Raiders regained their two-goal lead off a turnover by the Broncos in their own zone. Ilya Usau slid the puck to the slot for Ozzy Wiesblatt who fired it into the open net to give the Raiders a 3-1 lead after two periods.
Wiesblatt would score his second of the game in the third period, finishing off an impressive rush by Protas who set up Wiesblatt in the slot for a tap in to make the final score 4-1.
The Broncos now begin a stretch of four games in five days when they head to Brandon and Winnipeg for games Tuesday and Wednesday.
Announced attendance was 2,053.
