Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB - Calgary Hitmen forward Carson Focht tipped home a Jackson van de Leest point shot 1:34 into the first period of the 2019 ENMAX Teddy Bear Toss, triggering a waterfall of 25,025 stuffed toys on Sunday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The bear tally falls shy of last year's franchise record total of 29,635.

"For 25 seasons our fans have backed this incredible charitable cause and we would once again like to thank them for their tremendous support," said Hitmen Assistant Manager of Business Operations Rob Kerr. "This game has become a holiday tradition and the bears collected today will have a significant impact in our local community."

Over 70 local agencies, including the Salvation Army, Calgary Food Bank, Siksika Nation and Stephen's Backpacks will share the stuffed toys this holiday season.

Since the inaugural 1995 toss, the Hitmen, with generous support from their partners and fans, have provided the community with 402,608 teddy bears.

The visiting Red Deer Rebels went on to defeat the Hitmen 3-2 in overtime. Josh Tarzwell netted the game winner 2:13 into the extra session. Cameron Hausinger and Joel Sexsmith added the other Red Deer markers while Riley Stotts completed the Calgary scoring.

Teddy bears collected will now be turned over to local charities tomorrow, Monday, Dec. 2 beginning at 8:00 a.m. with distribution from Lot A at the 'Dome. Hitmen players will assist the process and then visit the Alberta Children's Hospital for more teddy bear deliveries from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

During the game, Calgary wore special red-themed teddy bear jerseys with snow-capped numbers that will be sold in an online auction that is now open and closes Monday, Dec. 16, at 8 p.m. Fans can bid on the jerseys along at ElevateAuctions.com with proceeds benefiting the Alberta Children's Hospital.
