CHIEFS NEWS: First Round Playoff Matchup Set Between Spokane and Portland
March 10, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - Following their 6-1 win over the Victoria Royals on Saturday night, the Spokane Chiefs are now guaranteed to face the Portland Winterhawks in the first round of the 2019 WHL Playoffs. The full first round game schedule remains to be determined.
The Chiefs and Winterhawks faced each other in the first round of last year's 2018 playoffs as Spokane battled back from a 3-1 series deficit to force Game 7. The Winterhawks prevailed, advancing to face the eventual Western Conference Champion Everett Silvertips in the second round.
This year's series will mark the 12th time the two franchises have met in the playoffs and the 8th time in the first round. Portland leads in all-time series wins, 8-3 (4-3 in the first round).
Portland sits three points ahead of Spokane for second place in the U.S. Division with four games remaining (three for Portland) in the regular season. If the playoffs started today, the Winterhawks would hold home ice advantage and host four of the series' potential seven games.

The Chiefs close out their regular season schedule next week beginning with a road game at Kamloops on Tuesday, March 12. Mike Boyle will have the radio call on 94.1 FM The Bear beginning at 6:30, with puck drop slated for 7 p.m.
Spokane's final home game will be on Saturday, March 16 versus the Tri-City Americans. It will be Miller Lite St. Paddy's Day Jersey Night & Regular Season Finale at Spokane Arena as the Chiefs will wear special St. Patrick's Day jerseys, which fans can enter to win.
Tickets for March 16 are available online, over-the-phone at 509-535-PUCK and in-person at the Chiefs' Ticket Office.
