Broncos Remain Snake-Bitten, Shutout by Raiders

March 10, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Swift Current Broncos News Release

For the third time in a six-day span, the Prince Albert Raiders and Swift Current Broncos met and the offence for Swift Current remained snake-bitten, suffering a 6-0 shutout loss on home ice.

Brett Leason scored the lone first period goal for Prince Albert on a shorthanded breakaway attempt.

Raiders forward Noah Gregor notched his 40th of the season as his attempted pass redirected off a Broncos defender and by Swift Current goaltender Riley Lamb to make it 2-0.

Forward Sergei Sapego tallied the Raiders third goal at the 14:55 mark directly after Lamb made a series of saves.

Consistent pressure from the Raiders was too much for the Broncos as they put up 22 shots on goal alone in the second period and built a 5-0 lead with goals from Sean Montgomery and Parker Kelly.

The Raiders got one more goal from Kelly in the third period to seal the 6-0 win. Lamb recorded 51 saves in a losing effort.

Swift Current finished the season series against Prince Albert for the year and posted a 1-7-0-0 mark.

Shots on goal were 57-14 in favour of Prince Albert. The Raiders power play netted one goal on six attempts while the Broncos were scoreless on six power play opportunities of their own.

Swift Current's losing skid reached 18 straight with the loss but they will get a crack at ending that streak on Wednesday, March 13th when they battle the Regina Pats for one last time this season at the Brandt Centre. Puck drop is at 7:00pm CT.
