Chiefs News: Chiefs Close out Home Schedule with Tough Shootout Loss

SPOKANE, Wash. - Keanu Yamamoto scored a goal and added an assist in his final home game in front of over 10,000 fans at Spokane Arena on Saturday night, but the Chiefs fell to the rival Tri-City Americans in a shootout, 5-4. The Chiefs close out their 2016-17 schedule Sunday evening in Portland.

Yamamoto jumped into the action early, skating around the back of the Tri-City net before snapping a shot top shelf over Americans' goaltender Rylan Parenteau. The goal, Yamamoto's 24th of the year, was assisted by rookie forward Eli Zummack and second-year defenseman Jake Toporowski.

The Chiefs made it 2-0 just under three minutes later as 2017 NHL Entry Draft top prospect Jaret Anderson-Dolan corralled a rebound to slide in his 38th of the year, assisted by Yamamoto and Ty Smith.

Tri-City got on the board at 15:34 of the first period to make it 2-1 as Parker AuCoin converted on a penalty shot.

Smith buried one of his own to push the Chiefs' lead back to two goals, rifling a shot from the left circle to beat Parenteau high at the 17:53 mark of the first. [related_links]

The Americans stormed back with two goals in the second period, beginning with Jordan Topping's 25th of the season at the 5:39 mark. Vladislav Lukin converted on a power play at 15:50 to tie the game at 3-3.

Anderson-Dolan found the net once again midway through the third period, finding an empty area in the slot before sneaking a quick shot inside the right post.

Tri-City would not be denied, however, as team captain Tyler Sandhu took advantage of a Chiefs misfire on the other end to convert on a breakaway and make it 4-4.

After a scoreless overtime period, Topping and Lukin converted in the shootout to give Tri-City the win.

Spokane finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill. Rookie 16-year-old Donovan Buskey started in goal for the Chiefs and stopped 31 of 35 shots faced. Parenteau made 35 saves on 39 shots.
