Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Prince Albert, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders (21-44-5-2) ended the 2016-17 season on a good note on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Raiders handed the rival Saskatoon Blades (28-35-7-2) a 5-1 loss to split the season-ending home-and-home series.

It was Saskatoon that opened the scoring 5:39 into the first period. Mason McCarty pounced on a rebound to put the Blades up 1-0.

That lead held until the second period when the Raiders took over the game. Simon Stransky snapped a shot through goaltender Brock Hamm for his 21st of the season at the 5:24 mark. Then, following a fight between Tim Vanstone and Evan Fiala that led to Fiala drawing an extra penalty, Stransky made the Blades pay with his second of the night, giving the Raiders a 2-1 lead with 8:25 remaining in the frame. The Raiders scored once more before the end of the period. Curtis Miske converted a great feed from Stransky on the power play to make it a 3-1 game after 40 minutes.

In the third, the Raiders kept coming. Adam Kadlec broke in on a rush and snapped it past Hamm 6:11 into the frame to make it a three-goal game. Less than two minutes later, Cody Paivarinta beat Hamm from the slot to round out the scoring at 5-1.

Ian Scott had a strong showing in goal again, stopping 24 shots to earn his 12th win of the year. The Raiders got five goals past Hamm on 31 shots.

Season tickets for the 2017-18 season are now available at early bird pricing for a limited time. For more information, visit the Raider Office or call 306-764-5348 during office hours from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
