Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - For the second consecutive night, the Peoria Chiefs found a way to come back in the late innings and defeat the Beloit Snappers, this time 2-1 Monday night at O'Brien Field.
The Chiefs finally put a dent on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth. With the score 1-0 in favor of Beloit, Dylan Johnston was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He advanced to second on a Davy Gregg sacrifice bunt. Robinson Chirinos then came through in the clutch when he delivered a run-scoring, game-tying single up the middle. After a Jesus Valdez pop out, Ryan Norwood gave the Chiefs the lead for the first time when he hit a high chopper threw the hole on the right side to make it a 2-1 ball game, which is all the offense the Chiefs needed.
With the game still scoreless in the top half of the seventh, Eli Tintor and Josh Land hit back-to-back doubles to bring home the first run of the game for either side and give Beloit a 1-0 lead.
Chiefs' starter Todd Blackford went seven innings and allowed just the one run on four hits in his longest outing of the year. The right-hander walked one and struck out three. Scott Koerber continued his outstanding work out of the bullpen tossing a perfect eighth in picking up his second win of the season. Ed Campusano came on in the ninth and recorded his league-leading 13th save. Beloit starter Brian Duensing suffered his first loss since April 12. He threw 7 1/3 innings while giving up two runs on seven hits striking out six.
