Chiefs Knock off the PawSox at McCoy

The PawSox fell to Syracuse 10-2 Wednesday night at McCoy Stadium. In continuation of his rehab assignment since having thumb surgery, Andrew Bailey threw one inning and struck out one for the PawSox. Syracuse had 13 hits while the PawSox only had five. After the loss tonight, the PawSox are now in second place behind Scranton.

Andrew Bailey made a rehab appearance for the PawSox and pitched one inning without giving up a hit, while striking out one batter.

Syracuse scored three runs in the second and led the PawSox 3-0. Brett Carroll had a 2-run double and another run scored after a fielding error by the PawSox first baseman. The Chiefs led 8-0 in the third inning after Zach Walters scored on a bases-loaded walk and Jarrett Hoffpauir followed with a grand slam.

The Chiefs added to their lead in the fifth after Hoffpauir scored on a missed catch by pitcher Will Inman who was covering first on the play and made it 9-0. Mauro Gomez hit a 2-run homerun (22) and the PawSox trailed Syracuse 9-2 after six innings. In the seventh, Syracuse extended their lead to 10-2 on a RBI single by Mark Teahen. Jason Repko led the PawSox with two hits.

Chris Hernandez took the loss for the PawSox after giving up seven hits and six runs in two innings. John Lannan earned the win for Syracuse. He gave up two runs, five hits, and struck out nine in eight innings. The final game of the 2-game set is tomorrow at 12:05 pm. Billy Buckner (4-5, 4.48) faces Jeff Mandel (2-4, 3.51).
